Camino Francés Reflections and Summary from the French Way

Reflections from the Camino Frances

My favourite image that I took on the Camino Francés. Day 14 in La Rioja at 07:26. A solitary unknown pilgrim walking and a beautiful sunrise.

Reflections from the Camino Francés

People walk the Camino for all sorts of reasons – spiritual, physical, cultural, emotional, or simply for the experience of travel.
Everyone you meet is walking their own path, for their own reasons.

For me, it was about the adventure – and the challenge. I wanted to see if I could do it.
Walking long distances for weeks on end certainly clears the mind and makes the body stronger. It was wonderful to have left the real world behind – if for just a while.

Before leaving, I decided not to blog about my Camino experience, choosing instead to record my journey in a journal once I returned home.
The tIme I spent writing about the experience gave me the opportunity to revisit my journey many times again. It allowed me to reflect on the moments, places, and people that had shaped my Camino.

My thoughts on the two much-debated topics of conversation we encountered on the Camino: Should you avoid the Mesta? and Is it cheating to take a bus or taxi?

What makes the Camino truly incredible is the shared journey toward Santiago. There is something powerful about moving in the same direction as so many others. Day after day, you see familiar faces, share stories, meals and miles, and strangers slowly become friends. That sense of camaraderie is something really special – and for me, it was the heart of walking the Camino.
