Day 14 | 15 July 2026 | Walking the Portuguese Camino

From Mealhada to Águeda | 25.4 km – 15.7 miles

My Camino is over.

Gutted.

I had hoped that the two rest days in Coimbra would have helped my knee injury from Day 10, but unfortunately they have not.
I have decided to stop in Porto in a week’s time and fly home to England from there. Until then, I am still going to enjoy the Camino and walk just small sections each day.

My hope and plan had been to walk all the way from Lisbon to Santiago de Compostela in one go. Now that is not going to happen, I will plan to return in April 2027 and complete the final stages from Porto to Santiago.
Looking on the bright side, it will give me time to mend and I will have something to look forward to over the winter.

We woke early and took the train to Mealhada, then a taxi to Anadia, before walking the 10 km section to Aguada de Baixo. From there we took another taxi to Águeda.
It was a pleasant walk, and the standout building was the wonderful wine estate of Quinta da Grimpa.

We just loved the colourful streets of Águeda. They were part of the Umbrella Sky Project, which transforms the streets with colourful installations during the AgitÁgueda Art Festival held in July.
