Walking the Camino de Santiago Photo Journals

Camino Photo Journals

These pages are not intended to be detailed guidebooks. There are plenty of excellent ones already out there.

Instead, I hope my photographs give you a flavour of what it is really like to walk a Camino – the early mornings, the long days, the people you meet, the places you pass through and all those little moments along the way that catch your eye and make you stop, if only for long enough to take a photograph.

And perhaps, these photo journals might inspire you to pull on a pair of trekking shoes, pick up a backpack and set off on one of the many Camino routes for yourself.

Photographing the Camino

I have been a professional photographer for many years, but when walking the Camino I made the deliberate decision to leave all my professional camera equipment behind.

Instead of cameras, lenses and all the usual kit, I carried just my old iPhone 13.

Every photograph in these Camino journals was taken on an iPhone. There was something quite liberating about simply taking it from my pocket, capturing the moment, and carrying on walking.

And, in many ways, I think that simplicity suits the Camino perfectly.
