Day 14 | 8 August 2025 | Walking the Camino Francés
From Nájera to Cirueña | 15.6.km 9.7 miles
Today’s walk was enjoyable with gentle tracks winding through softly rolling farmland. Today, two weeks into the Camino and we can feel ourselves getting stronger and fitter. The aches and pains from that first week are thankfully behind us.
We are so pleased that we decided to take and use walking poles and we would not have wanted to do the Camino without them. For me, the biggest benefit of using poles is how much they reduce the impact on your knees over long distances. After having knee surgery last year, I was a bit anxious about how they would hold up – but they have been fine, and I am sure that is thanks to the walking poles.
Today was also a washing day. Every third day became one, since we only carried clothes for four days to keep our backpacks as light as possible. In the current heatwave, drying clothes is easy – fifteen minutes in the sun or a couple of hours indoors. We use a washing line with suction cups that stick to the tiled bathroom walls, simple and effective.
With the washing done, we headed out for dinner in the village plaza. It was full of families enjoying the warm evening, and it was a nice way to end the day.
