Day 37 | 3 October 2025 | Walking the Camino Francés
From Triacastela to Sarria | 18.7 Km – 11.6 Miles
We left Triacastela at our now customary start time of 07:00. After passing through the small hamlet of A Balsa, we entered woodland where the path climbed steeply. Then, out of the darkness, my head torch suddenly illuminated a large green scallop shell. It was completely unexpected and startled me. As my adrenaline settled, I realised the shell was part of a fountain, with a pond in front and stone benches nearby – a resting place. It would have been nice to have seen it in daylight. The fountain was called: Fonte dos Lameiros.
I was quietly pleased with how my photo turned out, the beam of my head torch casting the shadow of my hands and iPhone across the surface of the pond.
We reached the highest point of the stage, at 910 metres, just as the sun began to rise. Looking back, we could see a vast bank of mist lingering in the valley below. During our descent, we would walk in and out of that mist during the day ahead.
We arrived in the village of Fontearcuda and discovered a truly magical place for breakfast: Tierra de Luz (Land of Light). We stayed for quite some time, sitting in the sun, enjoying the food, and soaking up the peace of the place. Later, I learned that Tierra de Luz is a sanctuary for reflection and healing – which made perfect sense.
Reaching Sarria made us happy! We had now completed the Camino de Santiago!
But our journey was not over just yet – we would continue walking the next day.
